Birthday in the time of Corona

Bday 2020 Bali

This is an impromptu shot from a quarantine style walk, with unflattering hair, no make-up and, might I add, no bra on, wearing instead a truly self-conscious smile and vintage aka 5 years old dress. I was oscillating from ”gonna own it” to ”shyyy, sweating, mmm noooo, not without my Instagram filter… ok, I’ll just blast my enthusiastic atoms all around”.

Got me thinking how ”natural” nowadays became the equivalent of ”vulnerable”, and feeling less than confident, a terribly shameful feeling. In the best case scenario we act like ourselves instead of being ourselves. In the worst, we copy someone else’s strategy. But you can’t be peaceful without being natural. And that means embracing both your highs and lows. There’s no symphony in the lack of contrasts.

Some people artfully explore life not knowing what they will get in return but eager to be exposed to all sentimental elements. They willingly and painfully shed their static identity so they can be remodelled by the collective beauty of this world. A fall from heaven in order to become heaven itself.

Due to being a nomad and/or surviving global pandemics we are by now well aware that we can easily hang out with our own demons and proudly survive the lack of fake office praise and drunk compliments in a smelly pub, as well as not using Tinder for the sole purpose of getting laid without having to explain one’s psychological limits. We stopped numbing the pain and started paying attention to what we actually want out of life.

I want my birthday celebration to be about radical honesty. As all humans living in society, I am positively influenced by beauty, success, looks and dialect, as long as they remain philanthropic pursuits. But what we need to focus on improving is our emotional capacity, the ability to love and feel genuine passion. We spend days on end hustling, making money, ego tripping, and fine tuning every inch of our body. But how much time do we spend in being powerfully humans? How aware are we about the beauty of our own hearts and the depth of our consciousness? How much do we focus on real and meaningful bonds with one another? I think we need to invest more in what the world actually needs.

So when you finally get out of this, please don’t just come out of the house for the sake of it. Set aside your fears. Fall madly in love with life! F*ck the autopilot. There’s no seminar, religion or trend out there that can teach you how to be a beautiful human or convince you otherwise. Only your heart can tell you who you really are and provide the most valuable guidance.

Unless you want to proceed with your mental quarantine. Stay home, stay safe and continue protecting yourself from loving and living passionately. Free to keep your dreams and your true desires locked forever. So you never get to see and love yourself for who you really are.

This is my covid birthday resolution. I won’t be giving or expecting anything less than godly presence. If you come out, BE out.

Cheers to all beautiful souls out there. Miss you loads! ♥️
